Italy is the second country in Europe, after Germany, with the highest number of people vaccinated against Covid-19.
There have been 72.397 citizens since the start of the immunization campaign between December 30th and 31st.
The data was released this Sunday (3) on the online portal of the extraordinary commissioner for the health emergency in Italy, Domenico Arcuri.
The Lazio region leads the number of administrations of the vaccine developed by the pharmaceutical company Pfizer in partnership with the German laboratory BioNTech, with 16.366 vaccinations (35,7% of the total number of doses available).
Next come Piedmont (9.478 – 23,2%), Tuscany (6.824 – 24,4%) and Campania (6.671 – 19,7). Lombardy, in turn, is far behind the others in absolute numbers (2.446 – 3%).
Vaccinated in Italy: three days of the campaign
In the first three days of the campaign, more than 52 doses were administered, just over one in every 10 of the 469.950 vials delivered to the country.
Abroad, however, the pace continues at a much higher rate, mainly in Israel, which has vaccinated more than 11% of the population, in England, Germany, Poland and Croatia.
So far, many countries are ahead of Italy, which has so far immunized 0,08% of its citizens – the vaccine, for now, is not required for children under 16 years of age, which must be taken into consideration.
The slowness, however, is related to the lack of health professionals and syringes.
“We need a powerful acceleration”, warns the Undersecretary of Health, Sandra Zampa, highlighting that “the regions must start running”.
“No usable dose can wait to be used, not even for a few hours.”
The numbers show the application of vaccines from the second batch sent by Pfizer to the country.
The company produces the BNT 162b, and the second delivery underwent changes due to logistical problems and bad weather. (Handle)
