Project will come into effect from May 1, 2017
In a meeting with unions held in Rome, the Italian government set the date for the entry into force of the bill that will allow early retirement: May 1, 2017.
The benefit, called “Ape” (acronym for “anticipo pensionistico”), can be requested by taxpayers who are at least 63 years old, that is, three years and seven months before old-age retirement defined by legislation, in the case of men, or two years and seven months for women.
However, anyone who wants to retire early will suffer a reduction of up to 5% in the gross amount paid by Social Security for each year advanced. You will also need to have at least 20 years of contributions.
The categories protected by the government, such as the unemployed who have exhausted all social benefits, the disabled and people who do heavy or risky work, including bricklayers and nurses, will have a special “Ape”.
To access this differentiated benefit, you will need to have at least 36 years of contribution, in the case of heavy work and teacher categories, and 30 years, in the case of unemployed, disabled or first-degree relatives who support disabled people. The citizen will also need to have a maximum income of 1,35 thousand euros gross per month, but there will be no reduction in retirement.

Italian unions demand a reduction in these floors.
“We believe that these barriers, one 30 years old and the other 36 years old, were created only to reduce the target audience,” said the general secretary of the Italian General Confederation of Labor (Cgil), Susanna Camusso.
