Considered one of the most famous Italian sweets, tiramisù has conquered its space in several places around the world and is celebrated this Friday (21), on “Tiramisù Day”.
This year, on the eve of the date, organizers of the Tiramisù World Cup in Italy announced that they had found “the recipe that anticipated what would later become the most famous dessert in the world”.
The preparation instructions can be found in the recipe book (handwritten) received on the wedding day of Sandra “Ducci” Micheletto, born in Sacile (Pordenone) in 1929 and died in August 2024.
Compared to the recipe celebrated around the world, made with six basic ingredients – eggs, sugar, mascarpone cheese, coffee, cocoa and the traditional savoiardi biscuit – the “ancestral” preparation method calls for the use of whipped cream instead of mascarpone.
Furthermore, the sponge cake replaces the Savoyardi biscuits, while it is suggested to add rum or cognac – currently some chefs use Marsala wine –, although the original recipe does not call for the use of alcoholic beverages.
Tiramisù Day will also be celebrated with the arrival in bookstores of the children's fairy tale book “Tiramisù di Treviso: presa il volo”, by Tiziano Taffarello, founder and president of the Accademia del Tiramisù.
In the work, the author invites readers to discover “a world of flavors and historical traditions linked to the Veneto region, offering a unique look at an Italian symbol loved around the world”.
According to data from the Just Eat delivery app, last year, orders for the traditional dessert totaled 18 thousand kilos of tiramisù, placing the classic at the top of the list of most requested sweets.
The company highlights that Italians are also tempted by variations “considered more delicious”, such as pistachio tiramisu, hazelnut cream tiramisu and the one made with cocoa biscuits, “confirming the desire to try new types of this great classic”.
According to the research, the preferred time to enjoy a good tiramisù is at night, especially in the winter months, a period that saw a peak in orders, with more than 5 thousand kilos purchased between January and March alone. (HANDLE)
