Italy has administered more than 2 million doses of vaccines against the new coronavirus Sars-CoV-2 in the last week, according to the Italian government report released this Saturday (10).
The data was updated at 8am on Friday (9) and also includes the Easter weekend. In total, 2.008.057 vaccines were administered in the last seven days.
This is one of the best results ever recorded since the start of the vaccination campaign across Italy. The week was also marked by the arrival of a substantial volume of doses, equivalent to 3.284.930.
According to the report, 38,79% of citizens over 80 years of age have already been fully immunized, while 68,20% have received only the first dose of the anti-Covid vaccine.
To encourage vaccination for this group, the extraordinary commissioner for the pandemic, Francesco Figliuolo, signed an ordinance recommending that the priority of the vaccination campaign will be elderly people over 80 years of age and frail people.
Currently, the percentages for Italians aged 70 to 79 are much lower than those aged 80. In this age group, in fact, only 2,48% were vaccinated with two doses and 19,89% with one.
On the other hand, the numbers are higher when involving elderly people in health care homes (RSA): 75,53% are completely immunized and 91,25% partially. In relation to health professionals, the rate is 75,29% and 91,63%, respectively.

Currently, Italy applies three different anti-Covid vaccines: that from Pfizer/BioNTech, that from Moderna and that from the University of Oxford/AstraZeneca.
Today, in fact, the Italian Medicines Agency (Aifa) warned that the second dose of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines must be applied with a maximum interval of up to 42 days.
According to the agency, the ideal is 21 days for the Pfizer vaccine and 28 days for the Moderna vaccine. If it is necessary to delay the second dose by a few days, under no circumstances should the 42-day interval be exceeded for both vaccines.
A AIFA he also reiterated that to obtain ideal protection it is necessary to complete the vaccination cycle with the second dose. (Handle)
