The Court of Appeal of Roma scheduled the hearing to decide on the extradition request of Federal Deputy Carla Zambelli (PL) for Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at 11:XNUMX a.m. The date was announced by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security to Justice Alexandre de Moraes of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), the reporting judge on the case.
“I inform Your Excellency that the next hearing on the extradition request of Mrs. Carla Zambelli will be held on August 13, 2025, at 11:XNUMX a.m., in the IV Section of the Court of Appeal of Roma“, declared the Ministry of Justice, in a communication sent on Friday, 8.
What will be analyzed
The hearing will assess the legal grounds for the extradition request, based on Italian law and international treaties signed between Brazil and Italy. The IV Section of the Court of Appeal of Rome (Cutting byappeal di Roma) define whether the requirements are met and what the next procedural step will be in the case.
Status of the deputy
Zambelli has been imprisoned in Italy since July 29th, at the Rebibbia penitentiary in Rome. Her defense says it will contest the extradition, arguing, among other things, that the case in Brazil is being overseen by Moraes, who was recently targeted by the United States under the Magnitsky Act. The parliamentarian maintains her innocence, having sought refuge in the country, and alleges political persecution.
