Located in Umbria, it covers an area of around 130 thousand square meters
Located in Italy, the largest Christmas tree in the world is lit up.
Like children waiting to unwrap their gift brought by Santa Claus, so is the spirit of the residents of Gubbio.
The medieval village of Umbria, already known for its cultural, historical and artistic value, has shown the world, since 1981, the giant Christmas tree, embedded in the hillside of the Monte Igino.
Impressive numbers
The Christmas tree in Gubbio, Italy, is officially recognized as the largest in the world.
Created by a group of city volunteers, it is part of the Guinness World Records since 1991. The tree has a base of 450 meters, and extends to over 750 meters.
It starts at the city's medieval walls and continues to the Basilica of São Ubaldo, at the top of the mountain. It covers an area of about 130 thousand square meters.
More than 300 light points located throughout the area outline the shape of the tree. Another 400 multicolored lights bring to life what is the biggest show in our country and the world.
40 years
This year, the lighting of the Gubbio tree has an even more significant value. The largest Christmas tree in the world celebrates 40 years.
The lights were officially switched on by the mayor of Gubbio, Filippo Stirati, and the Bishop of the diocese of Gubbio, Luciano Paolucci Bedini.
The event was recorded live on digital platforms and on regional TV.
