The largest sheep's milk cheese in the world is in the Italian city of Loculi, in the Sardinia region.
Weighing 598,5 kg, he was recognized this Monday (20) by Guinness, beating the title that, since 2010, belonged to the city of Ascoli Piceno, also in Italy, with a cheese weighing 534,5 kg.
According to the newspaper Corriere della Sera, the new record holder is 165 cm in diameter, 60 cm high and underwent 12 months of maturation, having been made in May 2019, in a city square. The data was verified by judge Lorenzo Veltri, who is part of the Guinness records committee.
To celebrate the title, the city promoted a party, on Tuesday night (21), with residents from other neighboring communities.
4.500 liters of sheep's milk, 25 kg of salt, 700 ml of rennet and 200 grams of lactic ferment were used. “It was done with the traditional method. In addition to registration, it was a matter of rediscovering the crafts and culture of the territory”, said Anna Pitzali, who built the giant wooden shape.
