The Italian government announced this Wednesday (10) that it will ban the use of cellular in school classrooms, starting from the next school year.
The measure was announced by the Italian Minister of Education, Giuseppe Valditara, at the conference "The Artificial School – Evolutionary Era and Technological Evolution," at the Palazzo San Macuto in Rome, and stipulates that electronic devices cannot be used by students and teachers, nor for educational purposes.
“I signed a circular that, starting from the next school year, prohibits the use of cell phones for any purpose, including educational purposes, because I do not believe that good teaching can be done with cell phones until high school,” he said.
According to Valditara, “this obviously does not mean the use of tablets or computers, which, however, must be used under the guidance of the teacher”.
The Italian Education Minister had already anticipated the measure, recalling that UNESCO recommended banning the use of smartphones in classrooms because, if used excessively or inappropriately, they could negatively affect academic performance, memory, concentration and the child's educational activity.
