Salvini wanted to approve a proposal to limit citizenship to the second generation
Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Matteo Salvini – from the Lega party – announced on Tuesday (11) that the text of the decree intended to limit the granting of Italian citizenship will be withdrawn from the agenda.
The information was revealed by Italian-Argentine senator Ricardo Merlo, undersecretary of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, through a video published on his Facebook page, through his secretary, Nicola Occhipinti, former consul of Porto Alegre.
If approved, the decree would set a limit for the transmission of Italian citizenship. 'iure sanguinis'(blood right) for only up to the second generation, that is, up to grandchildren of Italians. It will continue as it is today, with no generational limit to apply for citizenship.
