Brazilian legal experts Gilmar Mendes and Paulo Gonet are participating in an international conference at Roma Tre University in Italy to discuss the current political and institutional landscape of Brazil. The meetings are part of the official program of the Brazil-Italy Parliamentary Front delegation and will take place on November 24th and 25th.
On Monday (24), at 15 pm, the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court Gilmar Mendes will be the main speaker on the panel “The resilience of Brazilian democracy against the nationalist threat: the role of the Supreme Court”.
The session will be chaired by Marcelo Ribeiro do Val, from the Brazilian Institute of Teaching, Development and Research (IDP). Professor Luigi Ferrajoli, from Roma Tre University, will participate as a discussant. The opening remarks will be given by Antonio Carratta, also a professor at the university.
On Tuesday (25), at 10 am, the Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gustavo Gonet Branco, will speak about “The guarantee of democratic order in Brazil”. The panel will be moderated by Professor Francesca Di Lascio and introduced by Marcelo Ribeiro do Val. The panel will also include contributions from Professors Massimo Siclari and Barbara Pisciotta, from Roma Tre University.
The program is organized by the Brazil-Italy Institute (Ibralia), IDP, and Serafim Consultoria, with academic support from research centers and institutional backing from the Brazilian and Italian embassies. The events take place in the Consiglio and delle Lauree rooms, on the Law and Political Science campuses of Roma Tre University.
