According to the newspaper Il Tempo, Valter Lavitola, former editor and businessman, was arrested by order of a Rome judge on suspicion of being the mastermind behind the bombing that occurred in front of the residence of journalist Sigfrido Ranucci last October. The accusation points to the use of mafia-style methods. A second target of the same arrest warrant, Gomes Clesio Tavares, is being sought and, according to prosecutors, allegedly participated in planning the attack.
The prosecutors' reconstruction indicates that Lavitola conceived the plan and tasked Tavares with recruiting the perpetrators and locating the explosive. The two allegedly conducted an initial site inspection together on September 15, 2025.
