According to the newspaper Corriere della Sera, journalist Selvaggia Lucarelli stated that Sigfrido Ranucci wrote a glowing review of his own book, the novel La scelta, on Amazon using a false name. The text was signed by Emilio Cresci, but the username on the Amazon account, visible before the content was deleted, was that of the presenter of the program Report. The accusation was published in the newsletter Vale tutto, on Substack.
The review described the book as "a masterpiece about the daily struggle for freedom of information" and as a novel of our times, an engaging read with narrative planes ranging from rigorous investigations to behind-the-scenes glimpses and intimate moments. Lucarelli classified the text as naive and overflowing with enthusiasm, and said that it was deleted, but not before other colleagues from the Report read and shared it.
In a post on X, Lucarelli said she had always had personal and professional reservations about the presenter, and stated that his case had turned into a fan dispute. According to her, when a symbol becomes untouchable, mistakes, opacities, and questionable relationships cease to be viewed with the same rigor that he demands of others.
