According to the AISE news agency, director Gianni Lattanzio published an editorial in Meridiano Italia arguing that competitiveness has become the central word in the European debate, but that elevating it to a sovereign principle represents a risk to the idea of ​​knowledge. In the text, he acknowledges the merit of the Draghi report in exposing the innovation lag and productivity stagnation of the European Union, but warns that accepting the diagnosis does not mean adopting competitiveness as the sole measure of value.

The editorial distinguishes between two areas: the need to invest more in research and higher education, which Lattanzio considers obvious, and the risk of subordinating everything to immediate profit.
