According to the RaiNews portal, a 13-year-old, 29-kilogram Shar-Pei named Geppino traveled in the cabin of an Ita Airways flight between Palermo and Milan Linate, becoming one of the first large dogs to use the company's new service called Large Dog On Board. Until then, animals exceeding the weight limit were restricted to the baggage compartment, even though it was pressurized.

The change was made possible after the Italian civil aviation regulatory agency, Enac, authorized the transport of domestic animals in the cabin exceeding the traditional weight limits. The decision allows the animal to travel in a carrier secured by seat belts or other anchoring systems, including above the seats.
