FIFA announced this Monday (22) the nominees for “The Best” award, which crowns the best of the year in football, with Italian coaches Antonio Conte and Roberto ManciniGoalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and Italian-Brazilian midfielder Jorginho are in contention.
The ceremony will take place on January 17, 2022 and will reward the best players, coaches and goalkeepers among men and women. The finalists for the Puskás award for the most beautiful goal of the year will be announced soon.
Besides the Italian-Brazilian Jorginho (Chelsea) and the Brazilian Neymar (PSG), are among the finalists in the “best player” category Karim Benzema (Real Madrid), Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City), Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United), Erling Haaland (Borussia Dortmund), N'Golo Kanté (Chelsea), Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich), Kylian Mbappé (PSG), Lionel Messi (PSG) and Mohamed Salah (Liverpool).
The nominees for the best goalkeeper award are: Alisson Becker (Brazil / Liverpool); Gianluigi Donnarumma (Italy / PSG); Édouard Mendy (Senegal / Chelsea); Manuel Neuer (Germany / Bayern Munich); and Kasper Schmeichel (Denmark / Leicester City).
FIFA also released the list of finalists in the “best coach” category of the year. Among the names are the Italians Antonio Conte (Inter milan/Tottenham) and Roberto Mancini (Italy), as well as Lionel Scaloni (Argentina), Diego Simeone (Atlético de Madrid), Hansi Flick (Bayern), Pep Guardiola (Manchester City) and Thomas Tuchel (Chelsea).
FIFA will announce the three finalists in each category at the beginning of January. The winners will be revealed in an online ceremony.
