The Venice Film Festival, the oldest cinematographic event in the world, born in 1932, is renewed and looks to the future, differentiating itself from the competition, with a section dedicated to TV series premieres.
It is not only the selection of the competition, with its high number of stars, from Lady Gaga to Brad Pitt – one of the most anticipated editions – that causes controversy, but also the pioneering choice to create a special “Out of Competition” section dedicated to productions .
In contention are the series “Disclaimer”, by Alfonso Cuarón, with Cate Blanchett; “M – the son of the century”, by Joe Wright, with Luca Marinelli; “Family Party”, by Tomas Vinterberg; “Los Años Nuevos”, by Rodrigo Sorogoyen; and “Leopardi”, by Sergio Rubini, with Leonardo Maltês.
In the 2024 edition of the festival, which takes place from August 28th to September 7th, a real section debuts, for now limited to a few titles and out of competition.
The Supreme Court reaffirmed: citizenship is born with the person.

The initiative comes after Venice opened up to films from streaming platforms – the case of Netflix in 2015 with the feature film “Beasts of No Nation”, by Cary Fukunaga, in competition, followed in 2017 by the Italian series “Suburra”.
According to the artistic director of the Italian festival, Alberto Barbera, “Venice, although it was an alienating bubble at the time, is not at all immune to its time and embarks on authorial seriality, an audiovisual trend of recent years”.
The new section houses four series directed by Cuarón, Sorogoyen, Vinterberg and Wright, which according to the directors are very long films “that have nothing to do with the language and conventions of television series” and, in fact, also aspire to an event theatrical release.
“The comprehensive proposal of these four series seemed like a risk worth taking, wanting to continue the festival's commitment to signaling, if not anticipating, the most significant trends that are manifesting themselves in the universe of cinema”, highlights Barbera. (HANDLE)
