This Saturday and Sunday, November 15th and 16th, Porto Alegre will host the Festival Itália, a free event in Parque Harmonia celebrating... 150 years of Italian immigration in Rio Grande do SulThe festival features traditional cuisine, cultural performances, a fair of local products, and attractions for the whole family.
The event is promoted by Veveta Produções and Join Desafios, with support from Caixa Econômica Federal, Instituto RSNASCE, the Italian Chamber of Commerce, and the Consulate General of Italy. The aim is to highlight the legacy of the immigrants who helped build the state, bringing together Italian culture, flavors, and traditions.
Tradition highlighted
Inspired by the atmosphere of countryside festivals, the Festival Itália features colonial games in partnership with the Caxias do Sul Grape Festival, as well as a fair with cheeses, cured meats, wines, sparkling wines, liqueurs, and handicrafts. There will also be space for family farmers.
One of the highlights will be the Carnevalle di Venezia parade., with more than 20 artists from Nova Veneza (SC) wearing typical costumes from the traditional Venetian carnival, considered the largest event of its kind outside of Italy.
Music and dance for all ages.
The cultural program is varied. On Saturday, the public can watch performances by groups such as Ragazzi Dei Monti, Stella D'Italia, Le Farfalle, and the dance group Girotondo. The samba with a touch of tarantella from Samba da Ferraro closes the night.
On Sunday, in addition to the official morning mass, there will be performances by tenor Giovanni Marquezeli and a traditional Italian dance with the Girotondo Group. Neno and Nena, traditional characters from Italian culture, will welcome the public.
“We are bringing together families, artists, producers, and entrepreneurs to celebrate this legacy with great joy. It’s a party designed to evoke emotion and honor our roots,” says Lourival da Silva of Veveta Produções.
