Stella Kyriakides, European Commissioner for Health, stated this Monday, in the European Parliament, that the new wave of the pandemic that is ravaging Europe is caused, above all, by the unvaccinated.
A European Comission will propose a new recommendation on travel between Member States and should take into account the booster dose of the vaccine.
The Covid-19 increase in Europe is “rapid” and “worrying”, considers the Health Commissioner.
Stella Kyriakides recalls that vaccination works and continues to be the “most effective tool in combating the new coronavirus”.
In view of the rapid increase in cases in Europe, an update to the Council's recommendation on free movement within the European Union is being prepared.
After six weeks of rising numbers of cases and deaths, countries on the continent are once again expanding restrictions.
The Netherlands and Austria, for example, have resumed strict security measures lockdown. Portugal sees an increase in cases, but with no impact on deaths, as it is the most vaccinated country in Europe.
But the government resumed the mandatory use of masks, in addition to the active contagion tracking policy.
Italy discusses changes in the use of the anti-Covid health pass
Italy began discussions on Monday (22) to change the rules for the use of the anti-Covid health certificate throughout the country and create the so-called “super green pass”, as the pandemic numbers began to rise again.
At the first meeting, regional leaders asked for a model “to reward those who get vaccinated”, with fewer restrictions for everyone who is already immunized, “as quickly as possible”.
Furthermore, some governors emphasized the need to determine the mandatory use of the “super green pass” for vaccinated and cured people, even in regions classified as “white zone”, the least restrictive.
“The new measures would not be a punishment against anti-vaccines, but rather the consequence of their free and irresponsible choice,” said the governor of Calabria, Roberto Occhiuto.
At the moment, all of Italy remains in the white zone, with few health measures in place. However, several regions are moving closer to limiting some initiatives to try to contain the fourth wave of the health emergency.
During the week, a decision will also be made on whether the third dose will be mandatory.
