The town of Bento Gonçalves, in Serra Gaúcha, received on Monday (5) the Italian ambassador to Brazil, Alexander Cortese. The official visit took place at the City Hall and was part of the celebrations for 150 years of Italian immigration in Brazil.
Mayor Diogo Segabinazzi Siqueira led the reception, which was attended by the Consul General of Italy in Porto Alegre, Valerio Caruso, and a delegation from the Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia. The program strengthened cultural and diplomatic ties between the two countries.
The event began with a performance by the choir Valley of the Vineyards, which moved the audience and highlighted the cultural legacy of Italian immigrants in the region.
With a strong presence of Italian descendants, Bento Gonçalves is a symbol of Venetian colonization in southern Brazil. The city reaffirmed its historical role in the migratory process that began in 1875.
According to the city government, the ambassador's visit strengthens the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Brazil and Italy. The presence of the Italian delegation also reinforces cultural and economic exchange initiatives.
