You know that expression “it’s so good you can eat while praying!”? In Naples, the phrase comes to life literally.
Santíssima Pizza, a pizzeria located in the heart of the city's historic center, operates inside the chapel of Santa Maria Porta Coeli, built in the 14th century. With preserved Gothic architecture and a modern oven in place of the altar, the place combines the sacred with the profane in a unique gastronomic experience.
The chapel, originally dedicated to St. Peter the Apostle, was abandoned for centuries until it was restored by two young Neapolitan pizza chefs. The space, once in ruins, now pulsates with the tradition and creativity that make Neapolitan pizza a Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
A mass of flavors on the menu
The menu at Santíssima Pizza is a true tribute to gastronomy. The pastas are prepared with natural fermentation and high-quality ingredients. Among the stars of the menu are the “Corso Secondigliano”, which combines fiordilatte, scarola, anchovies and walnuts, and the “Pignasecca”, with asparagus, crispy guanciale and even pork popcorn.
The classic Margherita and Marinara are also present, as well as the traditional calzones and irresistible fried snacks. One of the highlights is the frittatina alla Genovese, a creative reinterpretation of the Neapolitan classic made with meat and onions wrapped in crispy dough.
Santíssima Pizza is not just a restaurant, but a testament to Neapolitan creativity, which transforms even a historic church into a place where culture, history and flavor meet.
