January 2018 was the second hottest since 1800
The year 2018 was the hottest in the last two centuries, according to data from the Institute of Atmospheric and Climate Sciences of the Italian National Research Council (CNR-Isac), whose database has climate records dating back to 1800.
The data indicates that we are witnessing a significant climate change and that, in Italy, the temperature increase is stronger than the global trend,” said the person responsible for the institution’s database, Michele Brunetti.
The data indicates that temperatures exceeded the average recorded between 1,58 and 1971 by 2000 degrees, surpassing the previous record, which had been recorded in 2015 (1,44 above average).
All months of 2018 were warmer than average, with the exception of February, which recorded lower temperatures and March, which was average. The month of January 2018 was the second hottest since 1800, exceeding the average by 2,37 degrees. April 2018 was the hottest in the last 30 years, with temperatures that were 3,5 degrees above the average for the period.
Italian data also points to temperature increases in neighboring countries, such as France, Switzerland, Germany and Austria.
