Italians Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori defeated Swede Andre Goransson and Dutchman Sem Verbeek this Thursday (23) by 2 sets to 1 and qualified for the final of the men's doubles bracket at the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the tennis season.
The Azzurri lost the first set 6-2, but then turned the score around with partial scores of 6/3 and 6/4 and closed the match in 1h52.
In the final, they will face Finland's Harri Heliovaara and Britain's Henry Patten, who defeated Germany's Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz 2-1 (6/4, 3/6 and 7/6).
Bolelli and Vavassori were already finalists at the Australian Open in 2024, but lost 2-0 (7/6 and 7/5) to Indian Rohan Bopanna and Australian Matthew Ebden.
“Last year, it was a completely unexpected final. It was very exciting and we didn’t know how to manage the difficulties in managing expectations in the best way. This time we will be better prepared,” said Bolelli after the victory.
The tennis player was already the Australian Open doubles champion in 2015, with Fabio Fognini, and a Roland Garros finalist in 2024, with Vavassori, who will be playing in his third Grand Slam final. (HANDLE)
