new government
Draghi was called up by Mattarella after the political crisis that culminated in the resignation of Giuseppe Conte, who had led the country since June 2018, in two terms with different coalitions.
Former president of the European Central Bank (ECB), the 73-year-old economist managed to forge a heterogeneous alliance ranging from the extreme right to the left, resulting in an overwhelming majority in Parliament.
Its aim is to rewrite Italy's plan to use the European Union's recovery fund, speed up the Covid-19 vaccination campaign and drive the economic recovery.
