The 2021 edition has only one name from Italy: Prime Minister Mario Draghi. He is in the 'leaders' category alongside Joe Biden and Donald Trump
“Time” magazine placed the Prime Minister of Italy, Mario Draghi, on the list of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2021 released this Wednesday (15).
The “Time” list is divided into six categories: icons, pioneers, titans, artists, leaders and innovators. Draghi is the only Italian on the list.
In 2021, the magazine highlighted names such as the presidents of the United States, Joe Biden, and China, Xi Jinping, and the prime ministers of Israel, Naftali Bennett, and India, Narendra Modi, as well as Abdul Ghani Baradar, one of the Taliban leaders.
Draghi's profile was entrusted to Janet Yellen, US Treasury Secretary.
“Central bankers’ speeches are generally not very inspiring, but Mario Draghi’s comments in London in July 2012 were an exception,” recalls Yellen.
“Mario and the ECB helped stabilize the European economy. At the time, I was at the Federal Reserve and I was especially grateful to have a partner like Mario on the other side of the Atlantic, someone with deep experience and consistent behavior. Now the United States is grateful to have Mario as a partner once again. This time, as the Italian Prime Minister,” Janete added.
In the other five categories, “Time” highlights personalities such as:
- Icons: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, tennis player Naomi Osaka and singer Britney Spears;
- Pioneers: Billie Eilish and Adar Poonawalla (CEO of the Serum Institute, India);
- Titans: gymnast Simone Billes, Tim Cook (Apple CEO) and Luiza Trajano (only Brazilian on the list);
- artists: Kate Winslet, Chloé Zhao and Lil Nas X;
- Innovators: Elon Musk (creator of Tesla) and Jensen Huang.
