The Italian Government postponed the start-up of Ita until October, airline to be created in Italy following Alitalia's insolvency, since the start of the operation is dependent on the conclusion of negotiations between the Italian executive and the European Commission.
According to statements from an Italian Government source to France-Press (AFP), the operation of the new airline “will take off in October, respecting the discontinuity of its predecessor and respecting the agreements with Brussels”.
Remember that the Italian executive had previously announced that Ita would enter into operation in August, a date that has now been extended by two months, so that it is possible to conclude the ongoing negotiations with the European Comission and in relation to which a 'green light' is expected for the plan that will save and relaunch the old Alitalia.
The European Commission, which is responsible for investigating the compliance of state aid with the competition rules that apply in all Member States of the European Union (EU), demanded an absolute 'cut' with the previous airline, which led to the creation of Ita, with a new brand and logo, Tickets issued by Alitalia are also no longer accepted.
Conditions imposed by the EC include the separate sale of maintenance and ground services, as well as the transfer of airport slots.
The airline's restructuring plan also envisages reducing the fleet by half – less than 50 aircraft – and reduction of employees in the aviation sector to less than 5 thousand. The company currently has 11 thousand workers.
Name equal to that of a Brazilian company
By coincidence the name ITA is also used by Itapemirim Air Transport, the new Brazilian airline.
