For the third consecutive year, Curitiba was invited by the Italian government to be the host city in Brazil for Italian Design Day (Italian Design Day, in the original name), which takes place simultaneously in 100 cities around the world on March 12th. The capital of Paraná was the only Brazilian city officially chosen to host the event in 2019 and will receive a visit from the Italian architect Giacomo Pirazzoli, from the University of Florence, who is a great student of sustainable architecture in large metropolises and the work of Italian-Brazilian architecture. Pirazzoli's main project is the GreenUP, an urban agriculture design strategy to repair the lost natural environment by transforming facades, flat roofs and sunshades into private micro-gardens or community gardens. This ends up requalifying some urban areas, making them safer and inaugurating bioprocessing systems to recycle water and mitigate the heat island effect.
Currently, the Italian architect is in Brazil continuing the project with Brazilian professionals from Mackenzie University, in São Paulo. This year, the theme of the international exhibition will be “Design and Cities of Tomorrow”. The lectures and debates in Curitiba will take place from 18:30 pm on March 12th in the auditorium of the Institute of Research and Urban Planning of Curitiba (Ippuc), at Rua Bom Jesus, 669.

The HAUS magazine, a publication on architecture, heritage, design and decoration published by Gazeta do Povo, Solar do Rosário, Lumen Design and Habitech are supporting the event.
The day will be celebrated by the world with discussions led by 100 “Ambassadors of Italian Culture”, including designers, architects, businesspeople, critics and academics. The event is promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, in alliance with the Ministry of Economic Development and Cultural Heritage and the Milan Triennale.
