Fewer appointments and more expensive processes. The Italian Consulate General in São Paulo processed 1.800 applications for recognition of Italian citizenship in 2024. according to data published on its official website, this Friday (10).

With a monthly average of 150 requests answered, the number represents a 95% reduction compared to 2022, when just over 37 thousand requests were filed.

The drastic reduction is attributed to the implementation of the infamous system Prenot@mi, introduced in 2023. The new model limits the available vacancies and generates what some call “citizenship lottery"Due to the difficulty in securing an appointment for the recognition of Italian citizenship."

Impact on the scheduling system

The Consulate says the change is intended to speed up the processing of waiting lists. However, the numbers reveal a significant unmet demand.

Interested parties who were unable to register in 2024 will have a new opportunity in 2025, as long as they regularly follow updates on the official website, social media and the Prenot@mi portal, where vacancies are made available monthly.

That's it. Fewer vacancies and more expensive processes, with the new rate of 600 euros for applicants.
