O consulate Italy's General Assembly in Curitiba presented impressive numbers in 2024. Highlights include a 110,68% increase in cases of Italian citizenship “iure sanguinis” and the 21,46% growth in the issuance of passports, consolidating the new phase of the organization.

4.869 citizenship cases “iure sanguinis” were processed (right of blood) in the year, against 2.311 in 2023. Trentino citizenships, governed by Law 379/2000, grew by 143,83%, going from 746 recognitions in 2023 to 1.819 last year, according to the NDMais portal.

Passport issuance also saw an increase: 14.726 documents were issued, compared to 12.124 in the previous year. Another milestone was the registration of new citizens in the Aire (Register of Italians Living Abroad), which totaled 20.403 new practices in 2024, a jump of 38,61% compared to the 14.719 registrations made in 2023.

The numbers are also impressive in civil status services: 5.416 cases were processed, marking a growth of 42,04% compared to the previous year.

“It was a collective effort, involving the Consulate, the honorary consular network and entities such as the Comites and chambers of commerce. This joint work has allowed us to better meet the expectations of the community,” highlighted Consul Eugenia Tiziana Berti.

Investments and modernization

The consulate, under the leadership of Consul General Eugenia Tiziana Berti, has implemented projects such as “PassaportAmico” to assist the elderly and urgent cases. In addition, biometric data collection for passport issuance will be facilitated with the opening of a new office in Florianópolis, scheduled for 2025.

The forecast for the coming years is optimistic: the consulate expects to process more than 12 thousand new requests for Italian citizenship “iure sanguinis” until 2026.

“Working in harmony with the community, listening to criticism and suggestions is essential to building an even more promising future for Italian-Brazilians,” concluded the consul.
