The Italian Consulate General in São Paulo has cancelled all procedures for the recognition of Italian citizenship that were scheduled for the coming months, including appointments.
In a note published on its website, the organization claims that “this measure aims to protect the health of all (employees) until the COVID-19 virus (coronavirus) pandemic ends.
The cancellation affects the 17 thousand applicants included in the waiting lists 2008, 2009 and 2010, which were called at the beginning of the month.
According to the statement, all applicants who “had already received a date (to present the documentation) will be rescheduled with priority.” Also according to the consulate, the documentation – possibly already issued – will not lose its validity.

We inform you that, taking into account the spaces and type of reception of the citizenship department, which provides for direct contact with applicants, from MONDAY, MARCH 16, 2020, the department's appointments will follow a different calendar.
Therefore, everyone who has received a scheduling email for dates starting on Monday, March 16th, must DISREGARD such appointments.
This measure aims to protect everyone's health until the COVID-19 Virus (CoronaVirus) pandemic ends.
The rescheduling will be done due to security measures and therefore, anyone who does not receive emails in the next few days should not worry.
All those who had already received a date will be rescheduled with priority, and responsibility on the part of this Consulate General, when the situation allows.
As communicated weeks ago, this Consulate General is strongly committed to reducing the currently existing citizenship queue.
At this moment, we reconfirm this purpose, for which we will continue working as we have done until now, when conditions allow.
Regarding documentation that may have already been issued, which would be delivered on the date already scheduled, we inform you that it will be accepted on the Rescheduling date.
