As of January 15, 2024, the Consulate General of Brazil in Milan will take an innovative approach by offering some of its consular services through the mail system.
The measure aims to provide a series of significant benefits for the Brazilian community in Italy.
Improved convenience
A significant change will be the elimination of the need to physically travel to the consulate to obtain documents. For many Brazilians who live in distant cities or face transportation challenges, this innovation will provide greater convenience and ease of access to consular services.
Time Savings
The document request and delivery process will be optimized, eliminating the need for in-person appointments. This will result in significant time savings for applicants, streamlining the entire bureaucratic process.
Expanded accessibility
The availability of services via mail will ensure that a wider public has access to consular services. Individuals with reduced mobility or who live in remote areas will directly benefit from this measure, promoting greater inclusion.
Services available via mail
The following services can be requested through the mail system:
- Life Certificate
- Residence certificate
- Declaration of Nationality and Civil Status
- Declaration for the purposes of marriage or civil union in Italy (formerly Nulla osta)
- Miscellaneous statements
- Passport for people over 18 years old (only for people who have already had their fingerprint taken)
Procedure for requesting services via mail
Those interested in using this service modality should access the website of the Consulate General of Brazil in Milan or the application E-consular. After filling out the request form, the documents will be sent by post after the request has been approved.
157 thousand Brazilians live in Italy
According to data from the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it is estimated that the Brazilian population in Italy is 157 thousand people. This number has been growing in recent years, mainly due to the ease of obtaining Italian citizenship by descendants of Italians.
The region with the highest concentration of Brazilians in Italy is Lombardy, in the north of the country, which is home to around 92 thousand Brazilians.
Next comes the Lazio region, with around 42 thousand Brazilians, and the Campania region, with around 30 thousand Brazilians.
