The consul urged caution among the Italian community in Brazil when requesting the new service. The recommendation is that only people with a genuine need should schedule an appointment at this initial stage.

"If we receive thousands of requests from people who just want another ID card in their drawer, we're going to crash the entire system," Fornara warned.
