The Italian Consulate General in São Paulo has extended the deadline for completing the mapping of minor children as a legal benefit. The new deadline is... February 8 nd.
The decision was motivated by technical failures that occurred in Prenot@mi system, which experienced instability throughout the last week.
Mapping is a mandatory step for citizens who wish to register minor children for the purpose of obtaining Italian citizenship by right. This applies to minors who were under 18 years old on May 24, 2025.
According to an official statement released this Friday (30), the current mapping will be the last. The objective is to determine the real number of minors whose parents — both — need to provide a statement in person. until May 31, 2026.
The consulate emphasizes that scheduling appointments will only be possible after this phase is complete. The number of registrations will be used to assess demand.
This measure is not applied by other Italian consulates in Brazil or worldwide. Furthermore, there is currently no official publication from the Farnesina (Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs) or national regulation establishing mapping as a prerequisite for scheduling citizenship recognition appointments for minors.
In a previous statement, the agency had already indicated the possibility of adopting alternative methods, such as sending requests by email, should the system failures persist.
The Prenot@mi portal and other consular platforms underwent technical updates in Rome. The change impacted several Italian consulates worldwide, affecting both the appointment system and the Fast It portal.
The agency warns that the confirmation is not sent by email, but can be viewed in the "registration" tab of the user's account.
An explanatory video was made available by the consulate with instructions for correctly filling out the form.
