The Italian Consulate General in São Paulo announced this Thursday (4) that it will begin issuing the Electronic Identity Card (CIE)The news, eagerly awaited by the Italian-Brazilian community, marks an important step forward in the provision of services to Italian citizens residing in the area.
The implementation will be done in an experimental phase, with limited slots and by prior appointment. The consulate recommends that, at this initial stage, only citizens with a genuine and practical need for the document should apply.
The CIE is the official identity document for Italian citizens. Produced by the Italian Ministry of the Interior and the Italian State Police and Registrar's Office, the electronic version allows the holder to confirm their identity and access online services of the Italian Public Administration, such as digital platforms of government agencies. However, it does not yet apply to consular services.
