The five best destinations in Italy to enjoy summer

In first place was Lago di Garda, a region close to the borders with Austria and Switzerland

Italian and foreign tourists voted on what the most sought after and desired destinations in Italy should be this year's European summer.

According to the result, which was organized in a list made by the travel website “Wimdu”, the top five positions are occupied by locations that have the sea or a lake nearby.

In first place was Lago di Garda, a region close to the borders with Austria and Switzerland and which has always attracted German tourists. The destination is among those that should be most sought after as it has all the ingredients for an ideal vacation, such as sports and relaxation activities, museums, parks and wonderful wine and gastronomy. In second comes the region of Sardinia, which over the years has become an irresistible destination. Surrounded by a turquoise and emerald sea, the island is the perfect destination for those who love a vibrant nightlife, exuberant nature or a refreshing swim on its beaches. The most popular places are Santa Teresa di Gallura and Villasimius.

Third on the list stands out Sicily and all its charms. The largest island in Italy is captivated by its beautiful sea, its islets, the tradition of its cities and its archaeological and architectural treasures. Cities such as Syracuse, Palermo, Taormina and Trapani are some of the best destinations in this region.

Fourth place belongs to Naples and its islands. Ischia, Capri and Procida are just some of the wonders that tourists can discover if they choose Naples as the destination for their next European summer trip. Furthermore, the Amalfi Coast also attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world with Positano and Amalfi.

And in fifth place comes Liguria. Close to France and the northern and central regions of Italy, the destination is ideal for family holidays. It is no coincidence that its always clean waters and beaches are awarded the “Blue Flag” every year, international recognition. (ANSA)
