Brazilian drivers living in Italy have gained a new feature for their daily lives: the conversion of their National Driver's License (CNH) into a Patent di Guida, the Italian license.
The rule was renewed between the governments of both countries this Monday (15) and establishes that anyone who has a valid driver's license and has been resident for less than six years can request the Italian document without having to go through the process of taking classes at a driving school or taking practical and theoretical exams.
Today, there are more than 100 thousand Brazilians living in the peninsular country.
The agreement was signed during the visit of the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, received by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at a luncheon at the Itamaraty Palace. “The greatest driving force behind the ties between Italy and Brazil are our societies, and it is in our interest to bring them closer together with simple measures that support exchange. That is why I am pleased with the signing today of an agreement for the reciprocal recognition of driver’s licenses,” declared Lula.
“I hope that this instrument encourages business and facilitates the routine of Brazilians who live in Italy and Italians who live in Brazil”, he added.

For Brazilians in Italy, wallet conversion must be requested from the Vehicle registration of your place of residence.
And based on what was established in the new agreement, the conversion of the driver's license to Italian or Brazilian nationality will only be possible for drivers in categories A and B.
The benefit does not extend to license holders in the categories C, D and E, who still need to take specialization courses in both countries.
