Discover where some Star Wars locations are in Italy
If you are a die-hard Star Wars fan, you must know the three locations from the science fantasy films. Check it out below:
1 – Caserta Palace
In the saga: Royal Palace of Naboo.
In “Episode I” and “Episode II,” filmed at Caserta Palace, lovers may remember this location as the royal palace on Naboo. The palace covers more than 44 square meters, making it the largest royal residence in the world. The Staircase of Honor is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the films. And between 1923 and 1943, the building was home to the Italian Air Force Academy.
2 – Villa del Balbianello, in Lenno
In the saga: location of the clandestine wedding between Anakin and Padmé.
This stunning villa overlooking Lake Como was built in 1787 by Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini. It actually fell into a state of disrepair in the early 20th century, before American businessman Butler Ames renovated the entire villa and its garden. Now the site of Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala's secret wedding belongs to the Grandi Giardini Italiani (Great Italian Gardens).
3 – Mount Etna, in Sicily
In the saga: Mustafar.
The epic battle between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin took place on the volcanic planet Mustafar in “Episode III,” but part of the scene was filmed on this tiny corner of Italy, and to ensure the vividness of the moment, the footage was shot while the lava was still hot. Mount Etna, on the eastern coast of Sicily, actually erupted while the movie was being filmed — and Lucasfilm sent a crew of cameramen to the volcano to capture various angles of the eruption to use as a backdrop for Obi-Wan’s fight.
