The businessman Mauro Sergio de Lucena Sammarco was appointed honorary vice-consul of Italy in Santos, on the coast of São Paulo. He was received this Tuesday (14), by the consul general Domenico Fornara at the Italian Consulate General in São Paulo.
Sammarco is a businessman born on October 18, 1975, in Santos, São Paulo. He is currently president of the Santos Commercial Association (ACS). He is also a managing partner of the companies Brazil P&I, which acts as a correspondent for ship protection and compensation clubs, and the Bowline Marine & Cargo Consultants, specialized in engineering consultancy and sustainable projects in the port and logistics sectors.
The appointment was published in the Official Gazette of the Italian Republic on August 16, 2025, and is part of a process led by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The initiative strengthens ties with the significant Italian community residing in Baixada Santista.
Responsibilities of the new vice-consulate
Sammarco will primarily act as an intermediary between Italian citizens in the region and the Italian Consulate General in São Paulo. His responsibilities include:
- Receiving and sending marital status documents, wills and driver's license renewal requests;
- Delivery of documents issued by the consulate in São Paulo;
- Authentication of signatures and life certifications for social security purposes;
- Assistance to Italian citizens in difficulty and administrative notifications.
In addition, you must collaborate in updating the registry of Italian citizens residing in the Santos area.
The honorary headquarters of Santos does not issue passports and there is no plan to install this service.
The honorary role is representative and collaborative, with no decision-making powers. All requests are forwarded to the Consulate General of Italy in São Paulo, which maintains official jurisdiction.
