Italian-Senegalese must lose Italian citizenship and be expelled from the country
Milan's preliminary inquiry judge, Tommaso Perna, confirmed that the hijacking of a school bus with 51 students in San Donato Milanese, last Wednesday (20), had a “terrorist” purpose.
The typification is in the decision that kept the Italian-Senegalese Ousseynou Sy in pre-trial detention in the San Vittore penitentiary, in Milan. The 47-year-old man is accused of aggravated massacre for terrorist purposes, kidnapping of a person, resistance and arson.
“The implied objective of the action was to force, or otherwise condition, the migration policies adopted by the government,” said Perna in his order. The attack was reportedly motivated by the “anger” generated by the blockade of a ship with 49 migrants in Lampedusa, a day earlier.
With the confirmation of an act of terrorism, the Italian-Senegalese must lose his Italian citizenship and, consequently, being expelled from the country after serving his sentence – based on the security and immigration law, adopted in 2018.
Sy took the young people back to a school in Crema, 50 kilometers from Milan, after an external activity. Near San Donato Milanese, he changed route and told the 51 students on board that he would go to Linate Airport.
He confiscated the students' cell phones, but one of them, Ramy Shehata, 13, son of an Egyptian immigrant, managed to hide his device and notify the police.
The attacker tried to break through a blockade at the Carabineiros' Arm, but lost control of the bus, which crashed into a wall. Sy then spread gasoline around the vehicle and set it on fire, but the police managed to get all the passengers out to safety. The kidnapping lasted just under 40 minutes.
An Italian citizen since 2004, he had a criminal record for drunk driving (2007) and sexual harassment of a teenager (2011).
