It starts this Tuesday (10), in Turin, the 66th edition of Euro Vision Song Contest.
The city, which will host the contest until May 14, was chosen as the venue because of the band Maneskin's victory in 2021 with the song "Zitti e Buoni," ending a drought of more than 30 years for Italy.
The Roman quartet has already confirmed its presence in the final of the competition, as has the singer Gigliola Cinquetti. In this way, Italy will bring together its first winner and the last winner of Eurovision.
The event will be led by singers Laura Pausini and Mika, judge on X-Factor Italy, and presenter Alessandro Cattelan directly from the stage set up by Italian designer Francesca Montinaro at PalaOlimpico, a work built for the Turin Winter Olympics in 2006.
The festival is divided into three non-consecutive days, with a semi-final on Tuesday (10) and another on Thursday (12), and the grand final on Saturday (14), all broadcast live on YouTube and TikTok.
The host nation is classified directly for the final, as well as the rest of the so-called “Big Five”, made up of Italy, France, the United Kingdom, Spain and Germany, as they are the countries that contribute the most financially to the holding of the musical competition.
In the grand final, representatives from each country cannot vote for themselves. In total, the votes are divided into 50% for the jurors from the participating nations and another 50% for the public.
Whoever scores the most points becomes the grand champion.
The winning country automatically becomes the host of Eurovision the following year.
The competition has been held since 1956 and is the second oldest European song festival, behind only Sanremo, created in 1951. (With information from Handle)
