O Italian Ministry of Health decided to raise the alert level at the country's borders due to the global increase in dengue cases.
According to the Ministry's authorities, surveillance will be stricter for transport from and goods imported from countries where “the risk of contracting the disease is frequent and continuous”.
The order was given by the Ministry shortly after the World Health Organization (WHO) warned that the increase in dengue cases represents a potentially high threat to public health.
Brazil is one of the countries that Italy will need to watch out for, as the South American nation has already recorded more than 500 thousand cases of dengue in 2024. In total, 75 people died, while 217 deaths are under investigation.
The Federal District and the states of Minas Gerais, Acre, Paraná, Goiás, Espírito Santo and Rio de Janeiro recorded the highest rate of the disease. (HANDLE).
