Classic by Vittorio de Sica will pre-open 81st Venice Festival

The classic “The Gold of Naples” (1954), by Vittorio De Sica, will be the pre-opening film of the 81st Venice International Film Festival.

The film, whose cast includes Eduardo De Filippo, Sophia Loren, Silvana Mangano, Paolo Stoppa and Totò, will be screened on August 27th, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of De Sica's death and the 70th anniversary of the work.

The exhibition will be in the anthological Sala Darsena, on the Venice Lido, in a world premiere of its digital version restored in 4K by Cinecittà. Artistic supervision is by Andrea De Sica, grandson of Vittorio.
“The Gold of Naples”, subdivided into six episodes based on the collection of short stories of the same name by Giuseppe Marotta, tells some of the many faces of Naples.

Presented at the Cannes Festival in 1955, it won the awards for best actress (Silvana Mangano) and best actor (Paolo Stoppa). (HANDLE)
