A small town in central Italy did not register any votes for mayor in the municipal elections last Sunday (12).
Castelguidone, a municipality of 300 inhabitants located in the region of Abruzzo, is one of more than 970 cities that went to the polls to renew their governments, but no voters showed up to vote.
The boycott was organized by the residents themselves, in protest against the only candidate for mayor in the village, Guglielmo De Santis, who is not even from the same region.
Born in Gallipoli, in Puglia, extreme south of Italy, De Santis presented himself with a list of eight candidates for councilor, but none of them were known to the inhabitants of Castelguidone.
In recent days, the candidate had assured that he was committed to managing the city, but was unable to persuade voters. As a result, Castelguidone will be managed by an intervenor appointed by the Italian government. (Loop)
