The time has come to sing in Portuguese, says Il Volo before shows

Back in Brazil after more than three years, the trio Il Volo will perform a series of shows in the country starting on March 8th and promises to deliver to the public a “italian night”, but with an unprecedented touch: a version of music “Como vai Você”, by Roberto Carlos, sung in Portuguese.

In an interview with ANSA, the stars say that the Jovem Guarda icon is one of the most famous Brazilian singers in Italy, also because of his victory in Sanremo Festival in 1968, and that they always heard about him when they were children.

“We always promised our fans to sing in Portuguese, and the time has finally come. 'How Are You' suits our music genre, so we hope you like it. We can’t wait to sing it in the show”, said tenor Piero Barone.

Ignazio Boschetto, the other tenor in the trio, says that it was fun, but “a little difficult”, to sing in Portuguese, despite his natural command of the language. “We decided to have a more São Paulo accent, and I learned Rio Portuguese, so it was difficult, but it was beautiful”, he said, adding that the group had help from “two Brazilian boys who live in Milan”.

Before the version of “Como vai você”, Il Volo had already formed a partnership with Paula fernandes in the song “Grande amore”, and Boschetto also says he likes Thiaguinho, Tom Jobim and Raça Negra, as well as music country.

“I heard a lot of 'Moreninha, beautiful of my good will, it's sad to miss you far away'”, said the tenor, singing the chorus of one of the best-known songs by the duo Tonico and Tinoco. Internationally, the Italians do not hide their ambition.

“We are not content, we would really like to be able to sing with artists like Adele, Jennifer Lopez… You can easily do duets with anyone”, declared Barone.

Baritone Gianluca Ginoble highlighted that, after the global success of tenors Luciano Pavarotti and Andrea Bocelli, someone was needed to continue to popularize this musical genre, especially among new generations. “But the road is still long,” he acknowledged.

Regarding the return of shows after the pandemic, Ginoble highlighted that it is necessary to return to normal life so that people can attend places and events “without thinking about anything, just having fun”. “Sometimes we need an escape from reality,” he added.

Boschetto echoed this and promised to deliver a fun, but also exciting night to the Brazilian public. “As always, we will try to give Brazilians the gift of an Italian night,” he said.

Il Volo performs in São Paulo on March 8th and 9th and then goes to Rio de Janeiro (11/3), Belo Horizonte (12/3), Brasília (14/3), Porto Alegre (17/3) and Curitiba (18/3). (HANDLE).
