The latest creation from an award-winning chef in Roma “caused” in the culinary world: toothpaste made from lasagna.
Valerio Braschi, winner of the 2017 edition of MasterChef Italy at just 18 years old, he was the youngest winner of the title in the history of the culinary talent show.
Four years later, he is the head chef at 1978 a restaurant, in the Trieste neighborhood, in the Italian capital, and is once again in the headlines.
"You don't 1978 restaurant you can brush your teeth with lasagna,” says a post on Braschi’s Facebook page, accompanied by a photograph of lasagna in a tube, an egg noodle toothbrush and a cup of Parmigiano Reggiano.

But where did this unconventional idea behind “modern lasagna” come from?
Braschi says he was inspired by childhood memories of growing up in Santarcangelo di Romagna, near Rimini in northern Italy.
“The morning after the holidays, as soon as we woke up, we used to brush our teeth with a big forkful of lasagna, left over from the day before, in the fridge.”
Braschi's creation divided fans of lasagna toothpaste on social media, between those who can't wait to try it and those who think it's a step too far.
After all, you can't change your grandmother's recipe.
