A Italian driver's license, or “patent issued” (in Italian) is one of the best in the world. The rules regarding the validity of driving licenses for foreigners vary from one country to another: depending on where it was obtained, it has more or less value abroad.
You can have driving licenses that allow you to move freely in many countries, while high licenses limit the period of validity to a period that can vary from two years to six months, after which you need to convert your wallet on local driver's license. In some cases through examination, in others only through a bureaucratic process. Based on this, the Italian license is among the best driving licenses on the planet.
That was revealed by Zutobi, an international online driver training company that examined the rules in force in 22 different countries.
Each local driving license has been given a score based on the levels of driving restrictions it is subject to in each nation. For each constraint, the Zutobi assigned a score of eight to zero depending on the restriction. In the end, the sum of the individual scores obtained, crossing all countries, determines the effective “power” of a driving license.

According to the analysis, drivers licensed in Italy are among the least penalized when driving abroad.
In a hypothetical ranking, the portfolio of Italian driver is in fourth place, behind Belgium, France and Germany, the countries with the highest scores, because they allow driving in most other countries with fewer restrictions.
Drivers from Belgium, France and Germany are free to drive within the European Union without any restrictions and can also drive on the streets of Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, South Africa and Switzerland for a year.
The same applies to driving licenses from Italy, Spain, Sweden and Finland, which, however, have a slightly lower “power” than those from Japan, and which are only valid if accompanied by an international driving permit – in Brazil it is called an IDP (International Driving Permit).
The driver's license issued in Switzerland is also very “powerful”. That of Great Britain, after the Brexit, needs to pass new tests to be recognized within European Union countries, for periods longer than one year.
