A survey carried out by the Associação Pizzarias Unidas do Brasil (APUBRA) revealed impressive numbers about pizza production in the country. According to the survey, approximately 3,8 million pizzas are produced daily by more than 115 thousand Brazilian pizzerias, with an average of 2.630 units per minute.
The data also shows that In the state of São Paulo alone, 870 pizzas are made per day. In addition to production numbers, the research addressed the flavors most requested by Brazilians, the inclusion of vegetarian and vegan options and the dietary restrictions met by the sector.
The research, carried out between June 13th and 16th, 2023, included the participation of 203 companies in the pizzeria sector. The data was collected as part of Fispal Food Service, an initiative that mapped a sample of the restaurant market in Brazil.
In addition to revealing the impressive production numbers, the study also highlighted the most popular flavors among Brazilians. THE pepperoni pizza leads the ranking, representing 38,2% of pizzas consumed. In second place is mozzarella, with 16,2% of orders, followed by daisy, with 13,2% of consumer preference.
Another relevant fact is the growth in demand for vegetarian and vegan pizzas. According to the research, 71% of the establishments surveyed offer vegetarian options, while 47% offer vegan options.
With regard to dietary restrictions, Brazilian pizzerias have sought to meet the needs of their customers. The study revealed that 32,6% of establishments offer wholemeal pasta, 27,3% serve gluten-free pizzas and 18,9% have lactose-free options.
The president of APUBRA, Gustavo Cardamomi, celebrated diversity and inclusion in the pizzeria sector. According to him, pizzerias are committed to offering options for all types of palates. “This shows the variety of pizza production in Brazil”, highlighted the president.
The numbers revealed by the research highlight the importance of the pizza market in the country and the ability of pizzerias to meet the preferences and needs of Brazilian consumers. The diversity of flavors, inclusion of vegetarian and vegan options, and compliance with dietary restrictions demonstrate the evolution and adaptability of the pizzeria sector in Brazil.
