Brazil has not yet moved forward with the renewal of the bilateral agreement on the recognition of driver's licenses between Italy and Brazil, which expired January 13, 2023.
The lack of renewal of the agreement prevents thousands of Brazilian workers in Italy and Italians in Brazil from converting their driver's license in the destination country.
The Italian deputy Fabio Porta claimed to be urgent and non-extendable the renewal of the agreement. “It is an act of justice for those who have been anxiously awaiting this news,” he said.
Porta said he personally and officially pressured the Italian Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Transport, with letters and a question discussed in the Transport Committee of the Chamber of Deputies. He also met with those responsible for the relevant Brazilian ministries.
“Recently, I received the latest information from the Italian Ministry of Transport, which is still awaiting responses from the Brazilian authorities,” said Porta.
According to him, the Brazilian embassy in Roma recently mediated with the Brazilian government to request a response to this latest request for clarification.
The Italian deputy stated that he is confident in the positive conclusion of the renewal of the agreement, but highlighted the urgency of reaching a solution soon. “It is the best way to honor the historic friendly relationship between our two countries”, concluded Porta.
