From this Wednesday, 8 January 2025, the UK will introduce the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for all tourists, including Brazilians, who wish to visit the region.
The new policy, however, will not apply to Italian citizens, until April 2025. The ETA must be requested online (here) and it is recommended to place the order at least three working days in advance of your trip. The cost is 10 pounds, approximately R$73.
ETA is a security measure designed to improve UK border control, allowing better monitoring of people entering the country and helping to prevent illegal immigration and other security threats.
Although it is a digital document linked to the passport of the traveler, the ETA does not guarantee automatic entry into the UK, and travelers will still need to go through normal immigration procedures on arrival.
To apply for an ETA, interested parties must access the official British government website, fill in the necessary information, including uploading a photo of the passport and a recent photo, and pay the fee online.
The approval process can take around three days, but it is not necessary to carry a physical copy of the ETA as it is linked to the passport.
Upon arrival in the UK, ETA holders may need to show proof of sufficient funds for their stay and, despite being approved, may still be subject to inspection at the border.
Once in the UK, the ETA allows free travel between England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, however, it is not valid in the Republic of Ireland or other countries. European countries.
The document is valid for two years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first, after which a new application will be required.
