Italian publisher Mondadori announced last Wednesday (16) that the autobiography of Pope Francis, the first written by a Pontiff in history, will be published simultaneously worldwide in January 2025.
The information was confirmed at the Frankfurt Book Fair, where Italy is this year's guest of honor, and details that the work “Spera” (“Hope”, in Portuguese) will be launched in the main languages in more than 80 countries, during the Jubilee of the Catholic Church.
According to Mondadori, the book, written by Italian author Carlo Musso, was produced over the past six years.
The publisher further explained that, at the Pope's request, the work was initially supposed to be published only after the death of the leader of the Catholic Church, but the arrival of the Jubilee of Hope next year and the needs of the time convinced him to launch it.
“It has been a long and intense adventure that has taken place over the last six years: the writing work began in March 2019 and will be completed in the coming weeks,” commented Musso.
The volume, which aims to represent a legacy of hope for future generations, is enriched by some photographs, some of which are private and unpublished, coming from the personal availability of the Argentine.
With revelations and previously unpublished stories, the book begins in the early years of the 20th century, with the narration of the Italian roots and the emigration to Latin America of his ancestors, to develop in childhood, youth, vocational choice, maturity, and, finally, covering the entire pontificate and the present time.
“The book of my life is the story of a journey of hope that I cannot imagine apart from that of my family, of my people, of all the people of God. It is, on every page, in every step, also the book of those who have walked with me, with those who have gone before us, with those who will follow us,” said Francis in the note released before the publication of the work.HANDLE)
