As Italian universities are standing out in the ranking of the best higher education institutions in the world. Although they have not yet managed to enter the global top 100, each year they are moving up positions.
O University Rankings Qs World University Rankings, one of the most respected in the world and published this Tuesday (27), revised the evaluation criteria this year, which may have contributed to this improvement.
However, it is important to highlight that the competition is becoming increasingly fierce, not only with the renowned American institutions that have always been at the top, but also with the emerging “Asian tigers”.
O Politecnico di Milano obtained the best result among Italian universities, rising 16 positions and reaching 123rd position in the world.
Right behind is the Sapienza University Roma, in 134th position, with an impressive jump of almost forty positions compared to the previous year (when it was in 171st position).
In third place among Italian universities is University of Bologna, in 154th position (was 167th).

Switzerland is the only European representative in the top 10
In the list of the ten best universities in the world, traditional American and British institutions still dominate, with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston occupying first place for several years, followed by Cambridge and Oxford.
The only European representative is ETH from Zurich, which rose from ninth to seventh place in this edition. It is also worth highlighting the entry of the first Asian university: the National University of Singapore (NUS), which rose from eleventh to eighth position in the world.

The 3 best Brazilian universities
In Brazil, the University of São Paulo (USP) won the title of best higher education institution in Latin America and occupies 85th position in the world ranking.
The second best Brazilian university is the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), in 220th in the general ranking and 8th in Latin America, with 42,7 points. The third best Brazilian is the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), in 371st in the world and 12th in Latin America, with 29,9 points.
The list, referring to 2024, was released by publisher Quacquarelli Symonds, from the United Kingdom. Compared to the last evaluation, USP rose 30 positions.
The study analyzed 17,5 million academic works and took into account the opinions of 240 teachers, students, employees and school owners. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is considered the best university in the world, holding this title for the 12th consecutive year.
